Councilor's Message
April 24, 2008
Greetings,
It is a distinct honor that I extent this greeting to you for the first time
as your Western District Councillor. I wish I could attend each state's
meeting so I could have the opportunity to meet you. The spring meetings are
a very busy and exciting meeting as you prepare for the upcoming AMT annual
meeting.
There are a few items I would like to share with you:
First, congratulations to all the award winners in Western District and we
have many!

If I missed anyone, I apologize. Congratulations to all award recipients!
Second, the early registration deadline for the 70th AMT Educational Program
and National Business Meeting is fast approaching. It is May 1, 2008. After
that registration goes up $30. Also, if you register before May 1 you are
entered in a drawing to win a free meeting registration. The earlier you
book flight reservations, the cheaper they are and remember to take
advantage of the special discount agreements with American Airlines for AMT
members for this meeting us the authorization number given in AMT Event.
Worried about the cost of a room, it is the same if you have one person or
two in the room; so, split the room with a friend and save. Book your room
soon. Last year AMT ran out of rooms! As a point of information, the hotel
shuttle only runs from 0500 until 2300. So, if you are not arriving during
those times, you will need to take a taxi and the approximate cost is $27
each way. The shuttle is $11 each way.
Third, as you go into your business meeting, don't forget to review the
letters sent to you by the AMT Board of Directors Candidates. One of your
responsibilities as a delegate will be to vote for fellow AMT members
seeking election to the Board of Directors. On Wednesday morning of the
convention you will attend the "Resolutions" and "Meet the Candidates" to
help you become prepared to cast your vote. You can also read about the
candidates in AMT Events. When you register, you will be given information
on any changes in the AMT Bylaws to be voted on along with the minutes and
annual reports to be given at the Friday Business meeting. Be sure and read
them in advance so you can ask questions if you have them. This is why they
are published and handed out in advance.
The educational program looks great with sessions for all disciplines. I
look forward to seeing many of you in Providence. If I can be of assistance
in any way, please let me know. My contact information is listed below.
Again, it is an honor and pleasure to serve as your Councillor.
Respectfully,
Barbara E. Ware, MT (AMT)

A MESSAGE FROM THE NEW
PRESIDENT, HENRY OH
Dear Fellow NMSSAMT members and friends,
I am deeply honored by the confidence of the
officers and board members of the NMSSAMT who supported my nomination during the
meeting on April 26, 2008. I am profoundly aware of the great responsibility as
a state society president and editor that has been entrusted to me. Thank you
for this opportunity to serve our state society.
Let me commend Hildie Polasky, our outgoing
president for a job well done! She has served the NMSSAMT for 47 years in
various capacities including the presidency for six (6) years from 2002 until
2008. Barbara Ware, our Western District Councilor, and myself prepared the
Certificate of Recognition which was presented to Hildie at the meeting. The
recognition reflects her leadership, contributions and commitment to the society
and to the profession of medical laboratory science.
Although Hildie and Ray will be starting a new
chapter in their life, we are fortunate that this wonderful couple will continue
to lend their support to us. Distance would not be a barrier. Hildie has
willingly accepted my request to serve as a consultant for NMSSAMT. She
mentioned that Ray will continue to look after our website. Hildie and Ray,
thank you. We will certainly share memorable thoughts about you. We wish you
good health and happy life.
I’d like to thank Apollo College for hosting the
venue; Terri Hock, Dean of Education, for providing most of the speakers; and
Nancy Zerbst for offering their facility as a site for our future meetings.
I’m grateful to Robert Reid for accepting the
position of Chairman of the Scientific Committee. Thanks also to Charles from
Tri-Core for volunteering to be our delegate to the AMT national convention in
July in Rhode Island. I’d like to commend our speakers for their interesting and
informative presentations: Chris Ryan Teague, Nancy Zerbst, Ellen Cardone, and
Terri Hock.
While we continue the activities led by our
former beloved president, and previous members who had served as officers, there
is an opportunity for me and for all current board members, officers and AMT
members to work together in seeking new ways to make our state society
responsive to the needs of the community, and more visible at the state and
national levels.
My challenge at the moment is being the new
president, but I know I can count on you to assist me in my new role. I will be
in contact with the officers to develop plans for our state society. My other
responsibilities that would keep me busy include: teaching and directing a
program at Santa Fe Community College; authoring a book for publication; helping
people in their career; and taking care of my 13-year old godson, Howard Vince
Oh, who will start college soon.
My dear officers, members, colleagues, friends,
and students, let’s move forward!
Henry Oh,
PhD, MT/AHI(AMT), CLC(NCA), RRT-NPS
