Innovations
that Extend RMA’s
Reach
In 1998, Independent
Health, a non-profit individual practice association Health Maintenance
Organization (HMO), joined the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s
demonstration project to participate in redesigning the clinical office
practice.
In
developing this project experts developed principles of continuous
quality improvement that could be applied across a broad range of
practice settings. Quality improvement of the
healthcare team, is
to ascribe to the pivotal role as the patients’ link to today’s complex
medical system. A system that recreates itself almost on a daily basis.
Healthcare
is among the most dynamic of professions. RMAs, you are a part of
this profession. The rate of change in procedures, policies,
regulations, and laws has been more than challenging at the physicians
practice over the last decade. Acknowledging the attempt to keep pace
with the rate of change within the physicians practice should extend our
reach to competency. The goal of the healthcare professional is to
ensure that we comply with federal laws and healthcare regulations. To
accomplish this goal, a Code of Conduct was developed at each facility.
This code is an essential part of our “Code of Ethics”, “Standard of
Practice”, and “Compliance Program.” The codes purpose is to provide
the appropriate guidance to ensure that we pursue all facets of our work
in an ethical and legal manner. And these obligations apply to our
relationship with patients who are number one, physicians, fellow
healthcare practitioners, third party payers, vendors, and all contract
agents.
“People
with small minds talk about other people. People with average minds
talk about events. People with great minds talk about
ideas.”
RMAs ideas connecting the docs….as the
employee of choice, one who makes a difference, impacting the office
setting with quality care and quality assurance.
AMT-Magnolia
Treasures 2005 “Will
extends
your
reach…”
The
“
Magnolia Educational
Treasure” is on September 21-24,
2005, at Casino Magic, Biloxi,
MS. The conference would be a most rewarding experience to anyone
who is able to attend. At this meeting you will be introduced to some of
the most knowledgeable and dedicated professionals. Those who make a
difference!
The
American Medical Technologists Institute for Education (AMTIE),
the continuation education arm of AMT already plays a key role in the
most important aspects of healthcare practitioners competency
education. Attending the Magnolia Treasures will take you to Roads that
you have not yet traveled yet (Robert Frost). Upon your return each of
you will bring back a pot of gold---knowledge.
Two
AMTIE-sponsored flagship programs are the Continuing Education
Certificate of Compliance (CED) Program and, the Continuing Education
Certificate of Excellence (CEE) Program. The programs are designed to
promote, track, recognize, and reward practitioners who remain current
in their disciplines through means of continuing education. The adoption
of this policy represents an affirmation of AMTs foundational commitment
to competency.
Attending
State
and District Meetings like the, “Magnolia
Treasures” in conjunction with our
National Educational Meeting allow us to meet the compliance
requirements and at the same time expand the network of allied
healthcare professionals and expand our voice.
I
want to take this opportunity to extend to each one of you, a
warm welcome to AMTs “Magnolia
Treasures.” Come meet those who
volunteered many hours in creating this superb event. All who attend
will be recharged, revitalized, and return with a wealth of knowledge to
assist them with the winds of change at his or her professional
setting. Enjoy the adventure to the “Road not yet traveled.”
In
conclusion, I want to thank Cathie Degustino of our AMT Staff who
assisted me with the graphics. Another indication of how helpful our
AMT Office Staff is to our membership.
We, the AMT
members’ are blessed with an excellent working Staff at the AMT office.
If you have not had the pleasure of getting to know them, please take
the time to do so, it will make your day.

at your service since elected to the National Board of Directors in
1996. It has been an honor serving AMT for many years.
